Severe Weather and Emergency Procedures

Emergency Situations
Rarely do emergency situations arise at Rock Ridge, however, if one should arise, the yellow flag will be raised on the flag pole indicating that parents will need to enter the building to sign their child out from their classroom. If children have been moved to a safer area you will be notified by staff of the procedure that you need to follow.

Clouds

Rain and Lightning
In situations where the weather is severe or the threat of lightning exists, teachers will hold children in their classrooms and parents will need to have the yellow visor tag showing to enter the parking lot pick-up loop. Your child will be called to come meet you at the curb. However, if you do not have a visor tag you will be asked to park and enter the building to get your child.

If you park and come into the building, please proceed to your child's classroom and sign them out with their teacher. ALL MOBILE STUDENTS WILL BE IN THEIR ASSIGNED SPECIALS CLASSROOM. At approximately 3:45 remaining students will be moved to the gymnasium and be held there for pick up.

Tornado
In the event of a tornado, we ask that parents first take cover in a safe area. Then, once the tornado has passed, report to the school and enter the building to sign your child out from their classroom or the gymnasium.

Severe Temperatures
Rock Ridge will have indoor line up before school and indoor recess when the outside temperature drops below 20'F. As we know in Colorado, conditions can change instantly. Sun, wind, rain and snow are also factors impacting severe temperature decisions.
